In the early morning hours of June 5th, the world lost a generous, kind, and loving person -- Laurie McKay. She fought valiantly but sadly she succumbed to cancer after a long struggle. Helen and all the Volunteers who had the good fortune to know Laurie will miss her. For many years, Laurie spent her Saturday mornings mopping floors, scrubbing cages, and cleaning dog butts – despite having worked all week. The Centre sparkled when she left and the dogs had all been cuddled and given some well-deserved attention. In addition, she (and Stephane) always found time to help out at the Bark ‘n Brunch, Meet & Greets, and wherever else they could lend a helping hand. Even in the past five years as she went through some rough and debilitating times, volunteering was still important to her. After our move to the new location, she would still offer her help and visit often – sometimes you would find her with a paint brush in hand and other times simply spending time with the pooches.
All who knew Laurie and worked with her will miss her smile and uplifting personality. Our sincere condolences to her husband, Stephane Levac. Her beloved dogs will no doubt be lost without her.
