Obituary for Vera MacEwen (Grant)

In the early hours of Friday, October 25, at the age of 91, Vera Elva MacEwen bid farewell to a wonderful life full of love, laughter and giving. At long last she is reunited with her true love, Bill, whose life was cut short by his death from cancer in 1985. The youngest of four children, she enjoyed a carefree childhood growing up on a farm just outside of Moose Creek. Predeceased by her dear sisters, Mazel and Marion, by her loving brother Keith and by her adored parents, Willis and Belle Grant, Vera came from a family that valued hard work and an abiding faith in God. Fiercely loyal to her adopted community, Vera volunteered for over forty years at Maxville Manor and was always at the ready for her church, the WMS, and the choir. She was the creative force behind Maxville’s locally-acclaimed Carols by Candlelight service. A talented soloist with a penchant for painting, our mother insisted that even a kind word of encouragement was an important and necessary gift. Her legacy is one of faith, family and an unmatched capacity to love. Always the heart of the family, Vera will be profoundly missed by her three children: Kathy, Allan (Leslie) and Jim (Heather) to whom she was a devoted and generous mother. Vera was also a dedicated grandmother, cherished by her eight grandchildren, Laurel, Adam and Gregory McCosham; Bill, Peter and Alana MacEwen; Carley and Shelby MacEwen and by her three great grandchildren. Her love, compassion, sense of humour and example of faith will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Relatives and friends may call at Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 20 Main St. South, Maxville (613-527-2898) on Monday, October 28, 2019 from 7-9 pm and on Tuesday from 1pm -2:30 pm. Funeral Service will be held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Maxville on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 3 pm. Interment to follow in Maxville Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to the Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
