Obituary for Onagh Ross

Onagh Ross, age 92 years, passed away peacefully at the Maxville Manor, Maxville, ON, on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Daughter of the late Alexander and Hilda (Murphy) Lagroix. Predeceased by husband Gordon and daughter Barbara. Survived by children, Lorne (Lorraine) of Ottawa, ON; Hugh and Marion Ross-Hayter (Colin) of Grande Prairie, AB; Kenneth (Carol) of Cranberry Portage, MB; Kevin (Kim) of Flin Flon, MB; Scott; Glenn (Tammy) of Chelsea, QC; Sandra of Edmonton, AB and Gwen Boers (Sean) of Oxford Station, ON. Also survived by sister Verna Calvert, brother Earl Lagroix (Deanna), step brother James Howe (Nevaida), 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Predeceased by sister Anne Hegarty, brothers Carl and Edwin Lagroix and step mother Stennetta (Howe) Lagroix. Known as the "Book Lady of Martintown", Onagh for many years operated a bookstore and donated more than $100,000 of the proceeds to charities. She was also instrumental with helping historian Rhodes Grant write and publish several popular local histories. Sincere thanks to the staff of Maxville Manor and friend Sue Cuillerier for their excellent loving care of Onagh and special thanks to Nurse Practitioner Christie Thomson for her wonderful care and kindness over so many years. Relatives and friends may call at the Munro and Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 20 Main St. South, Maxville, ON on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 12 pm – 1 pm followed by a Memorial Service in the Chapel of the Funeral Home at 1 pm. Rev. Lois Gaudet officiating. Memorial donations to the Maxville Manor Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
