Obituary for Micheline Joubert

The family of Micheline Jeanne Joubert are sad to announce her passing on August 31st, 2022, at the age of 72. Left to mourn are her partner, Brian Russell, her children, Michael Zylberstein (Alyson) and Jennifer Zylberstein (Rachid), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Avery, Kayleb, Jacob and Logan. She also leaves her siblings, Robert (Cheryl) and John, her many dear nieces and nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents Pierre René and Inez Almira (neé Publicover).

Micheline fought a decades-long battle with cancer, which first afflicted her at the age of 27. At the time Michael was two years old and Jennifer was a newborn. She won that first fight, as well as several others since, and she lived a full and happy life in the 45 years that followed. In the final weeks of her life, she said more than once that there was a time when she worried that she would never get to watch her children grow up. The fact that she was ultimately able to experience the joy of being a grandmother, and that her grandchildren were all old enough to remember the time they spent with their Nana, was what she cherished most.

Micheline lived in many places during her adult life, including the West Island of Montreal, Saint-Lazare and Rigaud, Los Angeles, Mississauga, and Bainsville, Ontario. As a child she also spent time living in Quebec City, Ottawa, Kinshasa, and Bujumbura. She had the ability to quickly make meaningful connections with people wherever she went, and she touched many lives in her time with us. As a result, she leaves countless dear friends scattered across the country, the continent, and even the world. We request that you take a moment to leave a comment in the guestbook to share memories of how Micheline touched your life.

The family would like to express our thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Jewish General Hospital, the Lakeshore General Hospital, the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, and the Cornwall Community Hospital for their expertise, compassion, and dedication to Micheline’s care. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made in Micheline’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society: https://support.cancer.ca/site/SPageServer?pagename=DJ_NW_donation_type_selector&s_locale=en_CA.

Those that knew Micheline are invited to join us in celebrating her life. She always said she wanted us to throw a party in her honour after she left us. In that spirit, we’ll do our best to leave our sadness at the door and instead bring our stories, our laughter, and our joyful memories of the time we spent with such a wonderful person. We will be honouring Micheline's memory between 1:00pm and 4:00pm on Sunday, October 2nd at the Creg Quay Community Centre, 21236 South Service Road, Bainsville, Ontario, K0C 1E0. Condolences may be made online at www.munromorris.com .
