Obituary

Mary Lou KENNEDY
March 5, 1928 - March 31, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Lourdes Kennedy "Mary Lou" (nee Richard) on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the age of 93 in Ottawa, Ontario.

Mary Lou was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick on March 5, 1928, and is the beloved daughter of the late Rt. Hon. Clovis and Alice Bernadette Richard. She obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing from Ottawa University and became a member of the Victorian Order of Nurses. She moved to British Columbia to start her nursing career where she met her husband William Douglas (deceased 2003), in Vancouver, BC. Mary Lou was a devout practicing catholic and member of the Catholic Woman's League.

She will be fondly remembered by her children Iris, Michael (Kathy), Heather (Julian), Thomas (Joyce), Andrew (Chelsea), the late Stephen, and by her grandchildren Jessica (Spencer) Michelle, Emily, Katherine, Victoria, and William. Thanks to residents, families and to the many staff at Villa Marconi Long Term Care and the Ottawa Hospital, who showed sincere compassion, respect, and care for Mary Lou in her final years.

A visitation was held at the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd. in Alexandria Ontario, on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Finnan's Cathedral. Interment followed in the Parish Cemetery.

Those who wish to view the funeral service which was held on Tuesday, April 6, may do so by clicking on the following video link Mary Lou Kennedy’s Celebration of Life: https://cutt.ly/qvqQ7Zg . The Funeral Service is also available at www.munromorris.com and can be viewed at anytime.

In light of the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2022 where family and friends can reunite, details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to donate to the Victorian Order of Nurses or to Villa Marconi Long Term Care (c/o Gentle Care).
