Obituary for John F. MacDonald

It is with great sadness that we say ‘until we meet again’ to John, at 77 years of age, following a spirited display of strength while living with COPD. He passed away at home, surrounded by family on October 1st, 2020. He was the beloved husband of 54 years to Lise (Richer), the loving father of Natalie MacDonald (Paul Laplante) of Ingleside, Jeffrey MacDonald of Alexandria, Tammy Benson (Al) of Green Valley and Joshua (AKA Dean) MacDonald of Cornwall. Adoring “Pépère” to Vanessa, Kamryn and Blake. Caring great-grandfather of Alyza. He will be fondly missed by his siblings Maureen Bissonnette (late Donat), Inez MacDonald, Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald (Judy), Mavis MacDonald and many friends and family members. Predeceased by his parents John F. “Jack” MacDonald and Mary (née Dunovan) and his sister Margaret Henri (Robert). John will be remembered for his keen community involvement, a pillar of the community. He served actively on many boards, clubs and committees over the years, including but not limited to Les Ēlites, the Don Johnson Agency, SD&G Developmental Services, HGMH Foundation, Richelieu, Le Carrefour, Shalom House, Ēquipe Psycho-Sociale, etc. He was the proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal and Citizen of the Year award. He was very recognizant of the fact that his ability to serve the community was due to his wife’s unwavering support. John’s commitment to Moulure Alexandria Moulding and its employees for over 51 years gained him much admiration and respect. He considered it his second home and the employees were like extended family to him. He was a devoted member of the congregation at St. Finnan’s Cathedral, Paroisse Sacré-Coeur and Ēglise Ste. Marie de l’Assomption. Until the very end, he remained a man of deep faith, strong values and high ethics. He set the bar high and we will continue to try to follow in his footsteps as we remember the mark he leaves on the world. A visitation with controlled attendance will be held at the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South, Alexandria (613-525-2772) on Thursday, October 8, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Masks must be worn inside the Funeral Home during the visitation. A PRIVATE Mass of Christian Burial for relatives only will be celebrated at Église Sacré-Coeur, Alexandria on Friday, October 9, 2020. For those who wish to view the Funeral Service live online may do so on Friday, October 9, 2020 starting at 11 am at the following link www.facebook.com/kavproductions/live. Interment will follow in the Ste. Marie de l'Assomption Catholic Church Cemetery, Green Valley. John requested that casual and colourful attire be worn for visitation, in celebration of his life. In memory of John, a tree will be planted in a Memory Woods.
