On September 13, 2020.
It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, in her one hundredth year. Frances Ruth Pelley (nee Perry) was born in South Lancaster, July 21, 1921, at her cherished family summer home, where she resided most of her life. She was predeceased by her best friend and husband, Edgar J. Pelley (1921 – 1966). Frances and Edgar were co-owners of the famous Jack’s Place in South Lancaster. From there they built the Dairy Queen in South Lancaster and at a later date a second one in Alexandria. Together Frances and Edgar had three children: Brenda (Gordon) McNaughton, Sherwood Park, Alberta; Rhonda (Donnie) MacLeod, Dalkeith, Ontario and Kevin (Marietta) Pelley, Williamstown, Ontario. She had seven grandchildren: Rodney MacLeod, Stephanie (Jimmy) Etherington, Barbara (Adam) Miller, Wade (Denise) McNaughton, Bruce (Chantal) MacLeod, Katie (Chris) McMillan, and Tara (Josh) Hay. Frances also had the privilege of knowing her ten great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Brody, Tyler, Allan, Landon, Sierra, Ryan, Scott, Malcolm and Oaklyn. She loved each and everyone of us unconditionally, along with many nieces and nephews. Frances always took the time to inquire about how everyone was doing and was genuinely interested in the details.
Frances grew up in Montreal with her four sisters: Doreen (Lorne) Patton, Gladys (Ernie) Lavoie, Violet (Donald) Snider, and Olive (Chick) Fitzhugh. All whom are predeceased, along with her parents Emily Jane Hale and Alfred Perry both of Bristol, England. She was a very proud and independent person who collected a wealth of knowledge over her years. She had words of wisdom in every situation while delivering them in a humble, respectful way. Reading, crossword puzzles and reminiscing were her passion in the later years, as she made her home at the Riverdale Terrace, Cornwall. She will be missed by all of us and all who crossed her path. The family would like to thank the Nurse Practitioners in Lancaster, Dr. Menon, nurses, caregivers and staff at Riverdale Terrace for all their loving care.
Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd, 46 Oak Street, Lancaster, Ontario, (613-347-3629).
A private Memorial gathering will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church cemetery in South Lancaster. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
As a Memorial to Frances a tree will be planted in a Memory Woods. A tree grows - memories live.

My most sincere condolences. Mrs Pelly gave me one of my first summer jobs driving the famous Dairy Queen pick-up truck serving the cottage area around Lancaster. During my first day at work a little mishap involving the truck, a dock , a boat with resulting floating ice cream containers. After explaining the details, awaiting the inevitable response, I was completely shocked; the unexpected reply was " That's not the worst thing that has happened to that truck, we'll get it fixed, are you coming back to work tomorrow." I have shared that story with many over the years and 55 years later it still brings a great memory when I think of her even though we never met again after that one summer of work in 1965. Thank you for an irreplaceable memory of your patient and understanding character- Sincerely Larry Gordon
