Obituary for Donald Ian "Donnie" MacLeod

Passed away peacefully at the Glengarry Memorial Hospital on January 28, 2023 at the age of 86. Donnie was born on September 4, 1936 in Clinton, Ontario and lived in both Brighton and Brantford before the family moved back to the home farm at Skye in 1945. He lived in the Dunvegan area for fifty years prior to retiring in Alexandria. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing the fiddle and entertained at many local socials, dance halls, house parties and The Atlantic Hotel. He was also fond of dancing, ski-dooing, reading and in his later years, touring the town on his scooter. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Jean (née MacLeod); his devoted daughter Wendy (Bob Lavigne); his dear sister Catherine Anne Gauthier (Gerard); and his step-grand-children Sébastien (Coralie Jetton), Jonathan, Jérémie and Caroline Lavigne. He was predeceased by his parents Ian MacLeod and Grace Evans. A private family graveside service will be held in Kenyon Presbyterian Church cemetery, Dunvegan at a later date. For those who wish to do so, a donation in Donnie’s memory to Fondation Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation or the MacLeod School of Fiddling would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 114 Main St. South, Alexandria (613-525-2772). As a Memorial to Donnie a tree will be planted in a memory woods. Condolences may be made online at www.munromorris.com
